Tomijann Nabors

Creates work in a variety of mediums. She has variously designed, art directed and crewed (visual development, surfacing, lighting, modeling, animation, camera match and compositing) interactive media, broadcast, short film, features, as well as collaborating in performance works. Project awards include Oscar Nomination, Emmy Awards, and Cleos.

Nabors took Union retirement after twelve years at DreamWorks Animation in order to pursue independent projects in illustration for print, graphics and animation for film.

 

She designed and created shots for KAFKA SHRUGGED, a documentary short by Austin filmmaker, Anne S. Lewis. In 2019, Nabors' work on the film received the Award for "Individual Achievement in Production Design" from Southern Shorts Documentary Festival. The film, in addition, won an Award of Merit from Chautauqua International Film Festival in that year.

In 2020, Nabors created animated graphics for Emmy winning feature documentary, THE SHAKEUP, directed by Ben Altenberg.

DreamWorks:

Nabors served as a senior surfacer on DreamWorks' Oscar nominated, Golden Globe winner, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2.

Prior to this film, she served in Vis Dev and surfacing on the Academy Award nominated, THE CROODS, 

Nabors spent almost a decade in visual development and surfacing on DreamWorks' SHREK franchise.

In 2007 - 2009 Nabors held the Rudd Endowed Chair in Animation in the Moving Image Art Department, College of Santa Fe (more recently Santa Fe University of Art and Design).​​​

                                                                                                                                          

Will Vinton/Laika Studio:

Before joining DreamWorks, Nabors' experience was in design and production as an art director and generalist. She was recruited first as Technical Director, then was made Art Director at Vinton (now LAIKA) Studios for more than five years, working in both nationally broadcast commercials and longer form projects. Her work including modeling, animation and technical direction on WHERE'S RED?  narrative film for M&Ms WORLD, Las Vegas; Art direction and design for an NBC animated pilot, ANIMALS ANONYMOUS; costume design, modeling, lighting for DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, short film by Kirk Kelley; technical direction and art direction for M&Ms, Krylon, Firestone, Puffs, Whisk, Three Musketeers and many other nationally broadcast commercials.

                                                                           

Nabors various personal interactive projects, as partner in Animism LLC during the 90's won both the Outstanding Achievement Award and the Award of Excellence at South X Southwest Film and Interactive Festival.

Animation. This commercial was completed and broadcast in 2002;

then was re-released in 2016 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Mars
